Aeroacoustic study of passive treatments for the reduction of the interaction noise in turbofan engines
Periodic and turbulent wakes interaction with stator vanes generates noise (respectively tonal and broadband) which is considered to be the dominant source of the fan noise on turbojet engines. Passive treatments based on vanes with wavy leading edges ("serrations") have been studied. Noise reduction has been clearly demonstrated on isolated flat plates subjected to a homogeneous and isotropic turbulence. Numerical computations have also been proposed at ONERA on a turbofan geometry along with the manufacturing of a set of serrated vanes. However, the extension of the treatment to complex industrial geometries remains challenging. This new PhD will reinforce collaboration between SAE and ECL (and ARENA chair, led by C. Bailly). This work is directly related to the European project InnoSTAT, which main goals is to propose silent stator stages achieving a 2.5 dB noise reduction on a large-scale turbojet mock-up.
