Psychoacoustic and vibroacoustic oriented design optimization of sandwich structures, assessment of the meso-structural effects
- Summary:
The development of lightweight structures is a major trend in different sectors of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. The drastic compromise between weight and stiffness leads to noise and vibration harshness issues that should be covered. Lightweight structures are facing drawbacks in terms of noise emitted over a broad frequency band needing optimization. Recently, it was demonstrated that the vibroacoustic properties of lightweight structures such as sandwich panels can be improved playing with the face sheet perforation and with the core architecture. Certain ideas have been explored to valid the impact of geometric design on the vibroacoustic indicators. Different research works coupling vibroacoustics and auditory perception have gained increasing interest in examining the relationships between the physical parameters of radiating structures and the auditory properties of the corresponding radiated or transmitted sounds. Continuing with the previous studies, the current project concerns the auditory perception of sounds transmitted by the lightweight structure inside a cavity with the aim of conjoint psychoacoustic and vibroacoustic oriented design optimizations of such structures.
