Did you know that humans can perceive distress in the cries of human babies and in the whines of puppies, or that crocodiles navigate their environment and hippos recognise their neighbours using sound? Did you know that blind cavefish ‘talk’ to each other, and that comparing humans to other great apes informs us about language evolution?
