The Bioacoustics Winter School (BWS) is a short and intensive course in acoustic communication (2 weeks > 80 hours of classes + tutored project) organized every January at the University of Lyon/Saint-Etienne by the Sensory Neuro-Ethology Team of the Neuro-PSI ENE laboratory.

The teaching team is composed of researchers from the Neuro-PSI laboratory and outside; the training is open to scientists in training (doctoral students, masters), researchers in post, engineers in research offices, veterinarians in training or in activity, wildlife managers, members of nature protection associations, etc.

Learning objectives
Train in scientific issues and the use of bioacoustic tools.
At the end of the training, the following skills will have been acquired:
- know how to use the elementary equipment necessary for any bioacoustic study (digital tape recorder, microphones, speakers);
- have acquired basic knowledge of sound and signal processing skills (using software such as PRAAT and Seewave);
- be able to set up a bioacoustic study (scientific question, protocol, performance of experiments, analysis of results);
- have a general knowledge of the world of bioacoustics and its interests, both in basic and applied research.

The two week training is concluded by an oral exam. BWS students will receive a degree in bioacoustics, certified by the University of Lyon/Saint-Etienne.

Discount rate for master students with a regular registration at the "master d’Ethologie" or the "master d’Acoustique" of the University of Lyon/Saint-Etienne, and for PhD students with a regular registration at the "Ecole Doctorale SIS".
The registration requests for the 2019 session closed on 30 June.
