Short preface :
Random mechanics, particularly the study of vibrations, is an essential discipline in engineering. There are many applications in the transport, aeronautics, space and energy industries: mechanical resistance of structures subjected to wind, waves or earthquakes, reduction of vibration or acoustic levels, estimation of equipment lifetime, etc.

This book is the result of a course taught at the École centrale de Lyon. It brings together in a coherent whole the essential notions of vibration mechanics, signal processing and probability theory often scattered in the literature. This book aims to give students and professionals all the keys to understanding the fundamentals of this engineering science.

Presentation of the author:
Alain Le Bot is Director of Research at CNRS and Deputy Director of the MEGA ED162 doctoral school. Expert in acoustics, vibrations and tribology, Alain Le Bot carries out his research activity within the Laboratory of Tribology and Dynamics of UMR CNRS 5513 systems and teaches at the Ecole centrale de Lyon and the INSA de Lyon. He is also editor of the journal Mechanical System and Signal Processing and carries out expert missions, particularly in Africa, for the French Development Agency.
